Firewalls can cause lag. Some people turn them off.
There's not much to say other than that really.

No way, also, Game Guard and like can go themselves.
Disabling Firewall is like getting rid of your door altogether so people can enter and leave faster... Sadly, there's always someone you don't want in your house.
P.S. If a game requires you to turn your Firewall off, it's automatically a piece of shit. Unless I'm on Linux, Firewall is on.

"Firewall" in this case includes firmware:

I'd say it depends on how much you value your security. If you disable all connection protection you are opening yourself up to compromise. Unless you're going to run Hijack This! after every session, I wouldn't.
The decision, however, is yours.

I don't reccomend it unless you are prepared and qualified technically to deal with the consequences...

when windows pop ups with " Gw.exe is trying to gain access to the Internet "
You can say unblock, keep blocking or ignore just unblock the program.
and if you got a decent pc the firewall wont cause any lag

I always leave my firewall on. Despite the common myths, there is no lag caused by firewalls unless they have not been properly configured.

With the recent massive increase of in game injected code, there is NO way I would turn off my firewall to play a badly written game. I am not saying that SFC is badly written, but it sure sounds like it if they are trying to make a rule requireing you to turn off your firewalls.

Never turn off your firewall.... You are just asking for it if you are not trained or extremely knowledgeable regarding the matter.

I never run any software firewall. I'm not against anyone using it if they want to, and it will provide an extra layer of security, but I find my router gives me all the protection I need.
So, if it's windows firewall or another software firewall and I'm behind a nat router, I'd disable the software. I'd also open an obscure port for the game if I had to. But I would NEVER go online without any protection, and I've been a pc freak since 1980.
Look, no virus, worm or trojan is gonna ruin your pc to the point where it's unfixable, but the fact that the ONLY way to be sure you've been completely disinfected is to nuke the os and reinstall everything, it makes the risk not worth the time to recover.
